What will I find in the Critical Thinker Academy?

In the Critical Thinker Academy you'll find a collection of video-based tutorial courses, covering over 18 hours of viewing time, that are offered for free.

I'd like to go to the course catalogue page right now please!

There is also a small number of text-based courses that are updated weekly, but which are only available to Patreon supporters of the site.

I'd like to learn more about how to support the Critical Thinker Academy and what is included in these bonus courses.

The web page that you're looking at right now is what a course looks like on the inside when you're enrolled. The table of contents is available in the left sidebar.

To return to the main site page, you can click the "back" arrow on the top left navigation bar.

I'm using text lectures in this sample course to answer questions, but in general you'll find video and text on a lecture page. You can leave comments and questions in the discussion threads below each lecture.

The courses in the academy vary in length. They cover a range of topics related to critical thinking and persuasive writing.

Most of the courses include pdf ebooks with full transcripts of the lecture content. Currently there is about 600 pages of ebook content available on the site.

The content covered in the courses includes:

  • an introduction to principles of logic and argumentation
  • a basic introduction to propositional logic
  • an introduction to formal and informal fallacies of reasoning
  • an introduction to cognitive biases and their importance for critical thinking
  • a series of courses on reasoning with probabilities and uncertainty, including fallacies of probabilistic reasoning
  • a course (currently in development) on critical thinking about science that is intended to function as a new foundation for science literacy education
  • a course on argumentative essay writing
  • a course on how to cite sources and avoid plagiarism in your essay writing
  • an extended course on academic essay writing that introduces a structured methodology for organizing both your time and your writing

I consider this material "a good start", but I have plans to add much more.
